FAQ

Why invest in a professional?

There is nothing more precious than family and nothing more treasured over time than portraits of those we love. Quality professional portraits will outlast all of the furnishings in your home, as well as any cars, clothing, appliances or most purchases you will ever make. As in anything else, hiring a professional vs. a hobbyist gives you experience, knowledge, education, and quality archival products from the best labs available.
Your family is worth it.
Additionally, the knowledge that you have hired a professional allows you to have confidence in front of the camera.  A professional has experience with posing, with lighting and in putting you at ease, capturing natural family moments.  These moments then fill your walls- decorating your home and making you smile as you walk in a room.

What should I wear?

Be comfortable.  Be you.
Wear clothing that reflects your style and lends itself to being displayed on the walls in your home.  I am happy to consult and plan outfits prior to our session.  In general, I recommend coordinating rather than matching.  Both solids and patterns can work well as long as each blends well with the next.  Imagine selecting a neutral couch for your home, a rug to compliment and some great throw pillows to add a pop of color.

When should I book?

I schedule months in advance, and booking early gives you the luxury of selecting a date and time that works best for you.  If you are scheduling a newborn session we will use your due date as a guide and adjust if necessary.  Newborns arrive on their own schedule, and I love to photograph them between 4-12 days old, when they are the most sleepy and their cuddliness is at a maximum!   That being said, there is never a wrong time or a bad age to be photographed.   Your little ones change so quickly & professional photography is a way to keep them little for as long as possible.  While we’re together, hop in with your kiddos and get a portrait of you loving them up.  Don’t do it for you. Do it for them.  Your child is never going to wish that you had lost those last 10 pounds or that you had worn a different shirt.   Ever.

Can you help us plan a wall display?

Absolutely!   I typically go over wall display options right in your home so that we can be sure we have the right fit for each location.   We will work together to get you exactly what you love, whether it is a collection for the living room wall, a custom storyboard or gallery wraps for each of the kids rooms.

Do you sell the digital files?

I do!  However, I strongly believe that family portraits are meant to be enjoyed every day in your home.  I want them to make your walls happy, and you happy to look at them.   Just as you would not go to a restaurant expecting to cook the meal yourself, you should not have to print your own portraits when you hire a professional photographer.  I am happy to provide you with a high quality, archival, finished product.  I then offer digital files for purchase in addition to print orders.  If you are interested in being able to share your favorite images, portrait collections can include files.   If you prefer ONLY receiving files, without any printed portraits, I recommend that you seek out a photographer who is just starting out or looking to get a portfolio together.
